Social Security: 2FA is now part of document preparation

The temporary code is no longer a technical detail; it can now block or unlock the collection.

Since 12 May 2026, access to the Social Security portal with NISS and password can involve two-factor authentication. In practice, the client may need to confirm access with a temporary code sent to a validated contact.

The issue is access, not the document

Contribution status declarations, contribution career statements and other Social Security certificates still depend on the reserved area of Social Security Direct. The difference is that access may now require an extra confirmation from the holder.

Preparation before sending the request

A stopped collection should not immediately be treated as a portal error or a wrong document. Often the holder simply needs to confirm the login in the right channel.

  • Check whether the client can access Social Security Direct
  • Warn that a code may arrive by SMS or email
  • Ask the client to keep their phone and email available
  • Make clear that passwords and codes must not be sent through loose messages

How PedirDocumentos.pt fits this scenario

PedirDocumentos.pt organizes the request so the professional knows when a step is pending and the client understands what they are authorizing. With 2FA, this clarity reduces drop-off, phone calls and blocked Social Security documents.
