Proof of ending an activity (Comprovativo de Cessação de Atividade)

Find your activity closure declaration, check the cessation date and understand why this proof does not remove earlier tax obligations.

What it is used for

  • Provide proof of the declared cessation to an organisation needing to confirm the date.

  • Organise the tax closure with an accountant and separate active periods from later ones.

Fictional practical example

Inês stops providing freelance services and submits a cessation declaration. She keeps the proof for a process requiring the closure date, while retaining documents and meeting obligations related to her earlier services.

More about this document

What it is

This is proof of the declaration submitted to AT to report the cessation of an activity. It identifies the declared closure and its date. It records that tax event but does not, by itself, certify that there are no debts or later obligations.

Points to check and differences

Ending an activity does not erase taxes, debts, returns or record-retention duties for earlier periods. It does not replace closing other registrations or licences. To establish current status, check whether the activity was opened again after cessation.

Frequently asked questions

Do tax obligations stop after cessation?

Not necessarily. Obligations relating to the previous activity may remain. Check what applies to your case with AT or your accountant.

Does this prove that I have no tax debts?

No. It proves the declared cessation. To establish tax debt status, consult the tax debt and non-debt certificate and the recipient’s requirements.
